A fantastic school celebration: Our primary school association is celebrating 10 1 years!

On June 28, 2024, the time had finally come again: In the schoolyard in Wulferdingsen, our primary school association celebrated not only its 10 1 anniversary, but also the 50th anniversary of the Wulferdingsen location and the inauguration of the new nest swing.

The festival offered a wealth of activities for children, both in and around the school building. Highlights included tin can throwing, a sensory course, archery, football darts, sprint competitions, face painting and a water transport game. A wheel of fortune with sensational prizes also attracted numerous participants.

There was also something for everyone in terms of cuisine: from coffee and cake to popcorn and slushies to a large international buffet, everything was represented.

The celebration began with a warm welcome from our new headmistress, Ms. Schmidt. Afterwards, class 4a from Werste presented their dancing skills to the great delight of everyone present.

A special highlight of the festival was the official inauguration of the nest swing. Afterwards, the Bielefeld children's band "Randale" got the crowd going wild with their rousing songs. The students had raised the money for this unforgettable performance through a sponsored run on the sports field in September.

After cleaning up together, everyone agreed: This party was a complete success and was more than worth it.

A big thank you to all the hardworking helpers and generous sponsors who made this festival possible!

Mediation training successfully completed

Some children in the third grade are very happy because they successfully passed their mediator exam today.

Since February of this year, 14 children in Werste and 12 children in Wulferdingsen have been working with school social worker Annika Volland-Fuchs for one hour every week on the topic of “conflict resolution” – in addition to regular lessons.

For six months, they learned to pay attention to the feelings of their classmates and to settle any disputes that arose calmly and intelligently, following a five-step model.

After the summer holidays, the mediators start working in the schoolyard during recess and try to help arguing children find a solution.

Sports Festival – WerWulfiade 2024

The WerWulfiade; that was the name of our sports festival this year!

Teams were formed across classes and had to complete seven different stations at the Werste location. A biathlon, a throwing poker, a standing long jump, a tire chain, an obstacle course, a zone long jump and a figure eight race. In Wulferdingsen there were two additional stations, rope skipping and menhir throwing. The focus of all these disciplines, however, was the teamwork of the individual groups. The students showed off their sporting abilities and skills with a lot of motivation and ambition, and also took into account and lived the aspect of fair play. A great success and fun factor, not only for the students who actively participated, but also for the teachers and all the helpers who actively supported them.

Project day on the topic of “Children’s Rights”

“What children’s rights are there?”, “What does the right to privacy mean?” and “How do I implement the right to a healthy diet?” – Second-grade students in Wulferdingsen got to the bottom of these and many other questions a few days ago.

The school social work organized a project day with the children as part of the intercultural week in Bad Oeynhausen.

Children's rights were agreed in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989 and are intended to apply worldwide. Although they are implemented in Germany, many children are still unaware of these rights.

The school social workers at the primary schools wanted to change that and explain to the children some of their important rights.

After a joint introduction in the class, the children were divided into small groups and were allowed to find out about individual rights at different stations. For example, at the "right to education" station they were allowed to watch a short film on the topic, at the "healthy eating" station they were allowed to make fruit skewers and divide food into "healthy" and "unhealthy" or at the "right to privacy" station they were allowed to draw their safe place.

They were also taught what the right to a non-violent upbringing means and where they can get help in an emergency.

At the end of the class session, it became clear that the children had a lot of fun and that the goal of school social work - that every child now knows some of their rights - had been achieved.

Detectives, puzzles and the power of friendship - Exciting reading competition at the Werste – Wulferdingsen primary school

Last Thursday morning, an exciting reading competition took place at the Werste - Wulferdingsen primary school association, in which 20 talented pupils demonstrated their skills. The young readers competed against each other in front of an expert jury to determine the best readers.

The jury consisted of experienced members: Ms. Lubatsch, a retired teacher, Ms. Dölle, responsible for the open all-day program at the Werste location, and Ms. Gohlke from the Scherer bookstore. Her task was not only to evaluate the reading flow, but also to pay attention to the correct emphasis and intelligibility of the pronunciation.

In the first round, the participants presented excerpts from their own chosen books. Among others, Gabriel Malcom Martinez Kulan from Year 3 impressed with an exciting excerpt from the novel "The Three ??? Kids - Mission Mars" by Boris Pfeiffer. Then it became more challenging when all the readers had to read out an unknown excerpt from the text. It was important to create an atmosphere that captured and captivated the listeners.

After around three hours of excitement and enthusiasm, the winners were decided. Amidst enthusiastic applause from the classes, German teacher Ms Kolberg announced the winners: Emma Peters from class 2a T, Gabriel Malcom Martinez Kulan from class 3a, and Rebecca Peters from class 4a T were honored as the best readers in their year.

In recognition of their outstanding achievements, the winners not only received certificates but also book vouchers. These were kindly donated by the support association, which supports the commitment and passion of the readers.

The reading competition at the Werste – Wulferdingsen primary school association was not only an event full of talent and enthusiasm, but also a wonderful opportunity to promote and celebrate the joy of reading.

Instumentenkarussell

We were able to enjoy a special musical performance at the beginning of March, when the musicians Vanessa Feilen and Andreas Schuss presented their story of the little elf Katharina. They introduced and played around 20 different instruments live. Thanks to the interesting storyline and the interactive pieces, the children were involved from start to finish and had a lot of fun. Thanks to funding from both support associations, we were able to realize this highlight at both locations.

"Water is everywhere"

In recent weeks, our school has taken part in the free water project, which was initiated by the water supply association “Am Wiehen”. Each grade level dealt with different content. The children were able to contribute their previous knowledge and learned a lot of new things about water as a resource.

In the first grade, the topic was "Water is everywhere." The children highlighted the benefits of water and clearly saw how strongly the element is integrated into our everyday lives. They also collected tips on how to save water.

Leo is going to school!

My name is Sarah Hoffmann and I am a teacher and have been working at Werste Elementary School since October 2022 with my then prospective therapy dog Leo. Leo is an Australian Shepherd and was born on January 17th, 2022. His open-minded and balanced nature makes it possible to work with children. Just like the children, he is always happy to see them and work with them! We have been a certified therapy dog team since the end of August 2023.

Thanks to the support association, I now come to a class once a week for 6 weeks before I go to the next one. During this time, we talk about important rules of conduct and the body language signals that a dog sends us. For example, the children learn that Leo has an orange "work scarf" and a red "break scarf". The children can tell at a glance whether interaction is desired or not. They are only allowed to come into contact with him when he is wearing his work scarf. The children also learn how to give a dog a command and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere at the same time.

I am looking forward to an exciting time with your children!

Best regards

Sarah Hoffmann

"Heroes please come forward!"

Our application to the NRW Culture and School state program was positively confirmed and with the approved budget we were able to hire the actor Peter Paul with his award-winning pantomime project "Heroes please report".

With this theater project, children in the 3rd and 4th grades will be able to experience and implement scenic ways of resolving conflicts in the second half of the 2023/24 school year. Overall, the focus of the project is on playing with the body, body language and the art of pantomime and rediscovering yourself through theater.

“Long live sport!”...Sports festival at the primary school association

On Friday, June 9th, 2023, we held our sports festival in perfect weather on the sports field at the North School Center. In addition to the classic disciplines of the Federal Youth Games, the children were also able to try out many other exercise options. There were 13 stations in total: alternating jumps, standing long jumps, sprints (30m and 50m), circus, can throwing, three-legged races, softball throwing, alternating jumps, jumping course, lawn skiing, rope skipping and target shooting.

The children and the teachers had a lot of fun. We would like to thank the sports teachers and helpers for their preparation and support! It was a thoroughly successful day.

Researching with digital media

During their time at primary school, children learn to research selected questions on different topics. Working with digital devices and researching using children's search engines is becoming increasingly important.

Class 3a is currently working on countries in Africa. In small groups, they are looking for information about the respective country (climate, geographical features, population, etc.)

Playful learning with the Ozobot

Our school association has purchased the mini robot "Ozobot". Ozobots are small robots with a built-in battery and five color sensors on the bottom. The robots can be programmed without a computer using sequences of colors on paper or on a screen.

With the help of the mini robots, our students gain an insight into the structure and functionality of these IT systems.

Experimenting and exploring gives the children a lot of joy!

Ongoing towards better health and climate protection

We are taking part in the "SpoSpiTo Movement Pass 2023" project. Why did we decide to do this? Many parents take their children to school by car because it is supposedly safer. But the drop-off and pick-up traffic in front of our school repeatedly leads to dangerous traffic situations. The project is a good opportunity to try out whether it is possible to do without a car.

The challengeEvery child receives a SpoSpiTo movement pass. For every day within the 6-week project period on which a child has travelled to school (there and back) on foot, by scooter or by bike (only after the traffic test) (preferably accompanied by a parent), the parents can sign a corresponding table. Once the table is filled with 20 signatures, the SpoSpiTo movement pass can be handed in to the class teacher. In return, each child receives a SpoSpiTo certificate! In addition, fully completed movement passes (with 20 signatures) take part in a large prize draw. Prizes worth over 20,000 euros will be raffled off.

There are prizes to be won:

400 vouchers worth 20 euros each from DECATHLON60 Scooter Sprite from Micro100 children's backpacks from VAUDE

The use

There are many advantages for your child to walk to school, use a scooter or bike: Regular exercise strengthens the immune system, prevents poor posture and obesity and is also a lot of fun. The journey to primary school is ideal as a daily training session. By exercising in the fresh air, children become more alert and balanced, which means they go through their everyday lives with more concentration. Children learn early on how to deal with the challenges of road traffic and gain confidence. The journey to school is ideal for practicing correct traffic behavior step by step - first holding the hand of their parents and later alone or with friends. This is important because parents will not always be able to accompany their children on all routes in the future. On the way to school, children gain fundamental experiences that are important for their personal development. They make social contacts, explore the environment with other children and make discoveries in nature. In short: they explore the world on their own. This strengthens their self-confidence and promotes their personal responsibility.

You as parents also benefit when your child becomes more independent. The morning stress ends at your own front door and you save time on dropping off and picking up. Anyone who wants to can of course accompany their offspring to school. And last but not least, with the project we are making a contribution to climate protection and thus also to the future of our children. Every journey made on foot, by scooter or by bike reduces traffic and thus also pollution.

A magical Rose Monday with magician "Emmello"

The cyberscouts in our class

On January 19, 2023, the Cyberscouts from the IKG visited our fourth grade classes.

First, they showed us how to choose a simple password using the app "Check your password". We all tried that out. Then we learned a lot about using different apps (YouTube, Snapchat, TikTok...) and we played a Kahoot! quiz.

Bullying, cyberbullying and other dangers of the internet were other topics. There was also a quiz on these to show our knowledge.

We learned a lot and had a lot of fun.

(Report from class 4 from Wulferdingsen)

Skipping Hearts

On Monday, December 5th, 2022, the fourth grade from Wulferdingsen took part in a project day on the topic of "Rope Skipping" (that's the name of the athletic form of rope skipping). This was organized by the Skipping Hearts of the German Heart Foundation. The children learned many different tricks, jump sequences and partner jumps, which were then presented directly to the local audience. The workshop not only gave everyone a lot of fun, but also gave our hearts a perfect workout.

We would like to thank the Skipping Hearts team for this great day and look forward to seeing you again at the Werste location next year!

Young Opera

On Friday, December 2nd, 2022, the Young Opera team from Detmold visited our school. The opera "The Magic Flute" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was performed for the 3rd and 4th grades at both locations. The child-friendly and entertaining performance also actively involved children. They were allowed to take on small speaking roles. The children enjoyed singing the world-famous melodies "The Bird Catcher" and "That Sounds So Wonderful" together and rounded off the performance.

Regular projects

MoMo

MoMo (Monheim Model) is a structured cooperation between the music school and the primary schools of the city of Bad Oeynhausen, which was first carried out in Monheim

My body belongs to me

The theater-based prevention project "My body belongs to me" is a project of the "Sexual Abuse Working Group" of the city of Bad Oeynhausen in cooperation with the "Advice Center Wildwasser e. V. - Association against sexual abuse of girls", "mannigfaltig Minden - Lübbecke eV - Association for the advice of boys and men", the prevention department of the district police authority and the theater-based workshop in Osnabrück. The project is financed by the Bad Oeynhausen municipal savings bank, a grant from the budget of the equal opportunities office, the "Herzensmittel eV" association and a parental contribution, which is paid for by the support association at our school. The aim of the project is for children to develop skills to defend themselves against abuse. The aim is to specifically avoid instilling fear and mistrust in the children.
